Theme Song 00:42

about

Originally released in 1994 on cassette, the CD version didn't become available until 1998. Five of these songs (Maximum Water, Camarillo Days, Andy Gibb, The Blacklite Poster Room, Theme Song) are also available on vinyl on The Burning Sofa No. 10's Sagittarius Excerpt EP which was released in 1995 and is available from the Skinny Chest store.

~

Sagittarius is a mammal in a reptilian sky: all fur and heart twinkling restlessly amidst clouds of stars as hard as diamonds burning us blind. The archer shoots gently, but with an arrow point as accurate as any poisoned dart designed to kill. Birthed by some of the same lads who conjured down the many Burning Sofa/Softies songs from a similar heaven, Sagittarius dwells in a nest of chirping guitars, languid beats and smooth paternal vocals that bring the listener into a nocturnal house with other babes to rest and be fed a meal of cosmic dust.

"The sun stirs on the plain," as Sagittarius falls west into San Gabriel Valley, where it settles on a promontory overlooking sycamore groves and weedy dandelions. By day, the songs seep into ear canals via shimmering guitar passages that are crystal clear reflections of the haze sitting in the valley below. By night, the songs beckon us to gaze upward, past stucco ceilings into greater space, to wonder at the constellations and their starring roles in the drab theatre below.
